J Jackson Design connects with its community (both the physical, local community, as well as the larger community of organizations working towards missions and goals that mesh with those of its own) through the donation of goods and services. I believe in giving back and sharing ones gifts whenever the opportunity presents itself, and over the years, I have deeply discounted or completed donated my time and materials in the creation of goods, such as annual reports, promotional items, invitations, program brochures, etc. Some of the specific organizations with which I have worked include The Carpenter’s Shelter, The Center for Adoption Support and Education, and The Hurston Wright Foundation, among others. One of the more recent community connections that I am truly excited about is my work with Felicia’s Promise (www.feliciaspromise.org), which is an organization that assists girls of color from underrepresented communities by helping them to develop marketable skills, attain higher education, learn about career opportunities, and become financially self-reliant. I was able to create branded promotional items that were personalized for each of the girls participating in the program. The items were presented to the girls in the form of a welcome box.
